  1. Last October during Hurricane Sandy. Half the city was in the dark. I could see that 14th street and all of downtown was pitch black. It had been at least 3 days without power at our crib too. We played Scattergories for days. Days.

I assumed the show was cancelled. Who knows, I couldn’t call cause the cell phone died halfway through Day 2. Wifi? Forget it.

But Midtown seemed like it was back up and I still had these tickets. I sure didn’t have much else going on but lighting a candle every once in a while and sippin some bourbon. Power was out for blocks but the buses were still running in and out the city. So we grabbed our chargers and put our raggedy asses on the Spanish Bus. Maybe we took a little bourbon with us too. For warmth.

Being in the dark messes with your eyes. And if Sandy caused flooding and power outages for millions across the east coast, Squarepusher hadn’t noticed. The new light setup was fresh like produce tho. Crazy pixel geometry and only in classic monochrome. It was wild. His helmet would sometimes be the only light in the room. The beats felt like he was back in his digital zone. Just bigger and mo ill. Crazy times.

And I did get my phone charged too. Had to post up by a wall charger all Metal Gear-like till the surly chap in the Security windbreaker had me playin Musical Wall Mounts.
